This new co-op Arena activity will see groups of three players take on waves of increasingly difficult AI-controlled enemies. The more waves Guardians survive, the greater the reward at the game’s conclusion. Thankfully, this Prison of Elders mode allows for matchmaking, so you won’t have to worry about arranging time with two pals to hook up and try to unlock those Legendary and Exotic rewards. Of course you can still tackle the events with your own Fireteam, too. Bungie recently detailed the forthcoming Trials of Osiris a 3-versus-3 multiplayer mode which will also be launching with the House of Wolves DLC on May Trials of Osiris will be a much more challenging endgame PvP mode where only the best players will survive.
Conquering Destiny’s Prison Of Elders
One of the more interesting features to be added into Destiny 2 via its recently launched Warmind DLC is a new type of endgame activity called Escalation Protocols. In theory, Escalation Protocols function as a special sort of outdoor endgame activity in which players fight off increasingly powerful waves of Hive enemies. In the eyes of the community, one slight tweak could potentially fix those headaches: Escalation Protocol matchmaking. Sadly, even the most skilled fireteams have been finding the later waves of the Escalation Protocols in which enemy power levels nearly crest while players are capped at an insurmountable challenge.
Since a single instance of Hellas Basin can hold a maximum of nine players at once, those seeking to defeat an entire Escalation Protocol have turned to unorthodox strategies in order to gather three fireteams in the same instance and thus increase their chances of success. Bungie has never explicitly said how many players are meant to undertake a single Escalation Protocol, but their presence in Hellas Basin suggests that the closer to nine players there are, the better.
The Taken King’s April Update added a new Prison of Elders quest, bounties, a level 41 difficulty with matchmaking, and a level 42 score-based mode called.
The Challenge of the Elders will support matchmaking and resets weekly, offering fireteams the chance for rewards based off points scored during matches. A new Strike will put Guardians up against a new Taken enemy named Malak, pictured above. Moreover, the Archon Priest Strike will be amended to include a bunch of Taken. Neat, eh? Sign in. Destiny 2 matchmaking not finding anyone
Unlike the Trials of Osiris , House of Wolves ‘ new competitive multiplayer mode, the Prison of Elders supports matchmaking. However you decide to jump in, the Prison of Elders will throw enemies at you in increasingly difficult waves. Bungie has built this kind of thing before, of course, with Firefight, the beloved mode that debuted in ‘s Halo 3: ODST.
Destiny’s Prison of Elders is one of the new endgame modes added with Only the lowest-tier Prison challenge even supports matchmaking.
Here is how ” optional ” matchmaking would work. Once activated, the game will automatically look for team mates for you like it does in strike missions and stuff. People have different schedules, so even if a player had an abundance of friends playing Destiny; playing with them can still be a challenge because of such things like But, what I am curious about is how many people that LIKE this game have been locked out of the ” end game content ” because of the lack of ” optional ” matchmaking?
I’m sorry to say this, but Destiny 2 is going to be a massive failure if ” optional ” matchmaking isn’t implemented in it. I didn’t realize there was no matchmaking for the higher POE until I had already started the game. I was like this isn’t even going to work. It makes no sense to do it for certain things and not all of it.
It would have been nice if the game adjusted the difficulty setting based on the amount of participants in the activity like Diablo 3. Here’s a shocker of an idea Try the Destiny thread in these forums if you have no friends, or even the Bungie forums. I’m guessing it would take me 2 seconds to find some players here to do a run with. Maybe it’s because I have friends, I don’t understand any of these complaints.

Today, Bungie took to Twitch and other sources around the interwebs to showcase the new endgame activity for Destiny, the Prison of Elders. The new mode allows for a few ways to play in terms of difficulty. During the livestream, a display of the new location, The Reef, gave us a look at four ways to get down and dirty with the activity all staged for different levels of challenge. It was expressed that the base version is a level 28 random activity in the Prison of Elders that allows matchmaking and can be played as many times as desired for constant reward.
From what I understand, the activity consists of about 5 to 6 rounds each spanning 3 waves to complete.

It is based on the House of Judgment ‘s traditions for settling disputes between Fallen through trial by combat. The Archon Priest Aksor was previously a prisoner before later being retrieved by Taniks and having his soul restored by the House of Winter on Venus. The Prison of Elders is also known to contain members of the House of Wolves that were captured during the Reef Wars , though it also contains Hive , Vex and Cabal inmates who have attacked the Reef. These prisoners are considered “trophies” by the Reef, kept cryogenically frozen for the Queen’s benefit.
Though since Skolas ‘ rebellion, the Queen now wants the prison cleared out, and has recruited the Guardians to do it. A year after the Red War , the undead Fallen horde known as the Scorn orchestrated an incredibly massive breakout from the prison, following a lack of order after Mara Sov ‘s and Variks ‘ disappearances. Uldren Sov was behind the escape, and executed Cayde-6 with his own weapon after he attempted to stop the breakout alongside the Guardian.
Numerous prisoners not strictly affiliated with the Scorn, collectively referred to as the Wanted , also escaped the prison, going on to roam Patrol zones and roost in Lost Sectors. The Prison is featured in the House of Wolves as part of the new Arena game mode. It is limited to 3 players. The Level 28 mission includes matchmaking and is always random. Here’s how Destiny: House of Wolves’ new Prison of Elders mode works
The Destiny experience as it is today would be hardly recognizable to someone that only played the game at launch. While it’s still the same core experience, Bungie has endlessly updated the game based on feedback from fans, tweaking things here and there, and adding often requested features to try to make Destiny the best it can be. Unfortunately, while Bungie does a pretty good job at listening to their fans for the most part, there is one issue that they seemingly refuse to budge on, and that is matchmaking.
